1. This contest is sponsored by the Amalgamated Transit Workers Local 113, representing employees of the Toronto Transit Commission and York Region Transit (Veolia).
  2. Contest runs from Monday, October 9 until Sunday, November 11, 2012.
  3. The contest is open to persons 16 years of age or older who live or work or go to school in the City of Toronto. Verification that a winner meets these qualifications will be at the discretion of ATU Local 113.
  4. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. To enter, go to www.protectingwhatmatters.ca and follow the instructions.
  5. There is one prize per day, drawn at random each day from all entries submitted from the beginning of the contest. Each prize will consist of a cheque equivalent to the full cost of a single TTC Monthly Metropass ($126.00). While winners are encouraged to purchase a Metropass with the funds, it is recognized that many TTC Metropass users purchase their passes on the Metropass Discount Plan. Accordingly, the funds can be spent as the winner chooses.
  6. Winners will be posted on this website and notified by email. Upon providing their mailing address by return email, winners will be mailed their cheque. Winners who do not respond to their email notice of winning by Friday, November 23, 2012, will be deemed to have forfeited their prize.
  7. You may only win once. Entries will continue to be part of the pool of contestants throughout the length of the contest. For example, an entry submitted on October, 11, 2012 will be eligible for selection in all subsequent weeks of the contest.
  8. A Special Prize will be awarded on Monday, November 12, 2012 consisting of the monetary equivalent of a Yearly TTC Metropass. The winner will be drawn at random from all entries received by 11:59 p.m., Sunday, November 11, 2012, except those who have already won a Monthly Metropass. The winner of the Yearly Metropass agrees that his or her name can be published on this website and in newspaper advertisements placed by the contest sponsor.
  9. Entrants agree that the names of winners will be posted on www.protectingwhatmatters.ca, as well as the city/town of their residence. If the entry is through Facebook, the winner’s name, city and Facebook profile picture will be posted.
  10. Decisions of the contest judges appointed by the union are final.
  11. In accepting the prize, a winner acknowledges that the union may not be held liable for any loss, damages or injury associated with accepting or using the prize or using or consuming any product or service purchased with the prize.
  12. Winners will be required to answer the following skill-testing question before the prize is awarded to them. “What is the square root of 4,397,780 multiplied by the number of subway stations in Toronto?” Hey, we’re joking! Just wanted to see if you read the rules. The real skill-testing question is this: “(400 x 3) ÷ 6 = ?”
  13. This contest is subject to all federal, provincial and municipal laws.
  14. The union reserves the right to withdraw or terminate this contest at any time without prior notice.
  15. EXCLUDED FROM THIS CONTEST:• Members and employees of the union, its advertising and promotional agencies and their respective affiliates and associates and such members’ and employees’ immediate family members and persons with whom such members and employees are domiciled are excluded from this contest.• Employees of any ATU chartered body and such employees’ immediate family members and persons with whom such employees are domiciled.• All employees, unionized and non-unionized, of the Toronto Transit Commission and such employees’ immediate family members and persons with whom such employees are domiciled.
